Wow! A Year Has Passed

Hi all, I bet you have been wondering where I've been? Sorry for the terribly looooong absence but I do have an excuse. I've been struck by the love bug. Yes, I have found myself a wonderful man whom I've been seeing for the past year. Things are going extremely well and he treats me like a princess. The only down side to it is that my stitching has well and truly been put on hold. I have no time for that and many other things. We see as much as we can of each other, without being obsessive. He's truly one in a million and I am lucky to have found him.

I rarely get the chance to have a look at peoples' blogs so please forgive me for neglecting this area. A few of you have emailed me asking if I was ok. Thank you so much for contacting and showing your concern.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are planning an exciting New Year ahead.

In August this year I travelled to Eastern Canada/USA for a few weeks with a friend. We did a two week bus tour seeing New York, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Boston, and ending back in New York. I absolutely loved NY!!! Wasn't there long enough to do everything I would have liked, so it's a destination I would want to go back again one day. Pennsylvania was also a favourite. I was so interested in the Amish way of life. We stopped off at a town called Intercourse (yes, you read right) where there was a shopping village. I was totally in my element. Craft, country, and gift shops galore. Fantastic!

When I arrived in Quebec, there was a red rose waiting for me in my room. My boyfriend had sent it. Very romantic - he was missing me terribly. I took that rose with me all the way from Quebec, Boston, New York, then on the plane over to Los Angeles. My friend and I spent four nights at the end of the trip in the Hollywood Hills. A day each of Disneyland (needed at least 2 or 3 days there), tour of LA, and Universal Studios.

Loved the trip overall but it's a long flight from Australia to Los Angeles. At least 14 hours and very uncomfortable in economy class. I'm still sorting out photos (I took over 4000 of them) but will hopefully show you some one day.

I just wanted to update my blog and to let you know that all is well with me. Sorry I have no stitching photos to share. I hope everyone has been keeping busy with their craft and are creating some wonderful heirlooms for the future.

Happy New Year! ~ 2010 In Review

I hope you all had a wonderful Xmas filled with special moments of family and dear friends near by. Mine was with family, catching up, spent mostly outdoors since it was a lovely mild day.

The New Year has arrived in Australia and I shared the occasion with my sister, celebrating. We were both going to be on our own (which doesn't bother me) but decided to share the festivities together. A little bubbly and nibbles to help us enjoy the lead up to the New Year. We were going to watch When Harry Met Sally on dvd but it wasn't working properly, so watched the tv instead. I love watching this movie around New Year so it was a little disappointing we couldn't.

I thought I'd show you a collage of my year's work for 2010. Unfortunately I didn't get as much done during this year. My stitching mojo just seemed to vanish. Don't know how 2011 will go since I have other things going on at the moment (which I may tell you about at a later date). In all, I managed to get five projects completed.

A Little Pre-Xmas Stash

I ordered some stash over the last two months and it's only just arrived recently. The first lot was from Stitching Bits and Bobs. This I ordered early October and because one chart had to be ordered from the supplier, they hold back your entire order. This can be a bit frustrating, along with my priority package taking three weeks to get here! Anyway, the main thing is I have finally received it safely. I ordered some Victoria Sampler charts for Mum as part of her Xmas present. Another one of theirs she wanted to buy as she already had the accessory pack. This, I think, was the chart I was waiting on (Heirloom Nativity Sampler). These charts aren't in the photo.

Well, I've calmed down a bit since Oprah has left the country. I wasn't one of the lucky ones to actually see her show being taped in Sydney, since I would have had to have taken about three days off work. December isn't a good time to do this since it's our busiest time of year - no one is allowed to have any annual leave for all of December where I work. Plus you had to go into a lottery style draw just to get tickets! Knowing my luck, I wouldn't have got any. So I just kept up to date with all the news on the TV. Those at the first show's taping were given a necklace that you can actually buy yourself. Worth $AU450, it's not cheap, but it's certainly lovely. An Australian pearl hanging within a silver 'O'. Only available for a limited time, you can buy it from Kailis Jewellers Australia online. I'd love to buy one myself, but it's a bit too expensive for my budget.

So I hope everyone's gearing up for Xmas and are all organised. I've purchased all the presents I needed to get and tonight I'm going to sit in front of the TV and watch Carols In The Domain (live from Sydney), while wrapping my presents. It's a little tradition I've started and gets me in the festive mood.

Oprah Day

The day finally arrived. Named by the media, Oprah Day, saw the culmination of a year's preparation being displayed with two Oprah shows taped today at the Sydney 'Oprah' House. There will be four shows in all to be seen in January (around the 19th) in the US and here in Australia the day after.

The audience went wild and there was even an accident with guest Hugh Jackman arriving on stage. Don't worry though, he's alright. They may not show the actual incident when it goes to air but he flew on to stage via a flying fox, pulled the breaks too late, and ended up crashing into the back of the stage. Apart from a bruised, cut eye, he's still his perfect self. Oprah went ahead and interviewed him, as the show must go on.

She flies out of Australia tomorrow and our country can settle down a little and get back to some normality. What an exciting time it's been, for us here in OZ! THANKS OPRAH!!!

Oprah Soaks Up Sydney

It's the day before Oprah's big show/s in Sydney. Monday, and she set sail with Russell Crowe out on Sydney Harbour. A perfect day weatherwise for her to experience it.

Tomorrow is the taping of her show. Lots of Australian guests will appear, but with Bon Jovi in Australia as well at the moment, will they drop by to visit? Yes, they will! Bit of a fan of Bon Jovi (especially Jon Bon Jovi - is he hot or what?). Here's details of who will be on her show.

Day two in Sydney for Oprah and she started off with a climb of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. She wasn't so enthusiastic to start with, since I believe she's afraid of heights, but was happy she did the climb. Then she went on to Bondi for lunch at Icebergs Restaurant. (Watch out for a glimpse of Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, and their daughter Sunday Rose arriving in Australia, in the video. Nicole and Keith are among the guests to appear on Oprah's show being taped this Tuesday.)

Oprah Arrives in Sydney

Another day of Oprah in Australia. Here's what she got up to in the last 24 hours.

Oprah's first day in Australia was spent at Hamilton Island, visiting a wildlife park there (saw two koalas mating within the first hour of her arriving - welcome Oprah!), had a seafood barbeque on the beautiful Whitehaven Beach created by Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone, and stayed the night at the exclusive Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island.

Day two, she hopped on her private jet and flew to Darwin, then got a helicopter ride to see our famous 'rock' Uluru. While there she caught up with some of the audience guests she's brought with her from the US as well as meeting some Indigenous Australians. Then staying the night in the area at Longitude 131° accommodation.

Today was Melbourne with thousands of fans packed in at Federation Square in the heart of the city. She made a 15 minute public appearance then headed off for a quick shopping trip. It was reported she went to a jewellers in Toorak Rd, Melbourne whom she'd met in Chicago, USA. Then she was onto The Block Arcade in Melbourne (possibly more shopping) and to have a dinner which had been arranged, with some of her audience. Staying tonight in Crown Towers, probably in the presidential villa where Tom and Katie Cruise stayed while Katie was in a film being produced here July 2009.

Oprah's certainly seeing some good spots and staying at some lovely places while she's here. Perhaps not your typical holiday tour for the average tourist, but it's definitely an exciting one. Here's the second edition of her stay here which featured on the Today show this morning in Australia.

Tomorrow she's off to Sydney and will climb the Harbour Bridge over the weekend. One of my friends has done this and she raves about it.

Oprah's in Australia!!!

Yes, us Aussies have been anticipating her arrival ever since we found out she was going to land on our shores. I'm a big fan of Oprah and am excited that she's actually in Australia! She arrived on her private jet yesterday and got straight to seeing some of what our country has to offer. This clip was shown on one of our morning breakfast shows (the $10 meal they refer to Curtis Stone creating is in reference to an add he does for Coles supermarket here where he comes up with meals for the family for less than $10 - I'm sure Oprah's cost $10 many times over).

She's brought with her audience guests from her show and they have split into groups who are travelling throughout different parts of the country. Then they'll meet up next Tuesday to do two shows being filmed at the Sydney Opera (Oprah) House. I think they're filming other parts around Australia as they go along. She'll be in Melbourne tomorrow for a short public appearance but unfortunately I'll be working.

It's just so interesting to see a mega guest like Oprah in our country. Though she hasn't been here long, she seems to be loving it. The media are in a frenzy over her visit!

Stitching, Wine, Cheese & Chocolates

Hi everyone! Another late post, sorry. I've still got this bug which has been going on into the seventh week now. I don't feel too bad, just going through different stages with it. This past week or so I've had a runny nose and coughing still. A number of people have caught it, so the doctor says, and it takes awhile to go.

Anyway, Christmas time is upon us. I've redecorated my blog but have done nothing at home. Not one Christmas decoration to be seen so far. I think because I haven't felt my best these past weeks, I haven't been in the mood. I've got a small tree that I may put up and some decorations I can place on top of a cabinet. So I will probably go with 'less is better' this year.

I've been hearing in the news that Briton/Europe has been in the grip of a cold snap with lots of snow and harsh conditions. I hope my stitching friends in this part of the world are OK and keeping safe and warm. We're in Summer now and have had some warmer days. We had a long Winter and not much of a Spring, though we did get quite a bit of rain throughout Spring (the plants are growing wild). We've also had tropical downpours in Victoria this past week which is not normal for this part of Australia. You would expect it in Queensland and the northern parts. After being in a drought for the past decade, it's wonderful to get the rain though.

Last Sunday I went on a wine, cheese, and chocolate tasting tour with my workmates for our annual Christmas party. We usually go out to a restaurant for tea but this year we decided to do something different. It was such a good day and everyone enjoyed themselves. Here's a few pictures of where we went...

First stop was a winery called Box Stallion. This used to be horse stables and they've left the building as is. Inside it had the stables still as they were when horses resided in them. There was a wine tasting area, tables to eat at, and their administration areas. The boys liked the drier wines and the girls liked the sweeter ones.

Next winery was T'Gallant. We had another wine tasting there and then sat down for lunch. A lovely place to have a relaxing lunch on the weekend and listen to some live music in the background.

Then onto cheese tasting. Strange smell when you went inside but then we were able to sit outside under cover to taste the different cheeses. This place was out of the way and you wouldn't really know it was there. Looks like the owners lived on the property in a building next door. Lovely bushland surroundings.

Then my favourite, chocolate tasting! This was in Flinders and just up the road from where the hotel was, so we stopped for a drink before we did the chocolate tasting. Beautiful chocolates but very expensive. So I didn't buy anything there.

We got picked up at a central location in a minibus and was driven around to all these places. Such a great way to do it. No problems about worrying how much you were drinking because you had to drive. It was at places along the Mornington Peninsula which is such a beautiful area. Lots of wineries there and interesting places to see.

Now on to stitching. I did get my little project started but haven't got any further with it. So there's not much to show I'm afraid. Now I'm trying to get Christmas shopping out of the way, I don't know whether I'll have much time to stitch. Anyway, here's my start on it...

SHEPHERD'S BUSH Thanks A Lot - started 7 November 2010

Today I'm just getting the housework out the way before I head out to the shops again. More presents to get. It's starting to get busy in the shops. Since December arrived, people are now thinking they have to start organising themselves because time is moving on. I usually like to get my shopping out the way by end of November because it gets so busy during December. Plus this is the busiest time at work so I'm usually pretty tired during this month. I know there are probably people out there that are so organised, that they've already done everything they need to. Oh, the bliss of it. Me, I'll just have to plod along with what needs to be done. Merry Christmas!

Am I Actually Going To Start Something?

Here I go again! I've changed my mind. I thought I was going to start on a small Shepherd's Bush kit, then I discovered one I was going to do around this time last year and never got to it. It appeals to me a bit more and is appropriate for this month of the year. Called Thanks A Lot it's another little kit of SB that comes with a piece of Light Sand linen, silk threads, and a JABC bee button. With Thanksgiving later this month in the USA I though it was a good time of year to stitch this one up.

I'm a sucker for their kits. I love how everything is there ready for you to stitch. Their instructions are easy to read also. Each of their kits comes with an actual photo on the front of the instructions, showing the finished piece.

I've seen on their blog a picture of their retreat piece for this year. It's a sampler within a sampler. Of course we'll have to wait for around another year before this will be released to us folk who didn't go to the retreat, but I think it will be worth the wait.

So back to this kit I'm thinking of doing. I love the thread colours SB choose for their patterns. They're usually soft and muted, not glaringly bright. The button that's included with this one is a bee. I thought it was a bug because it was purple until I read the details on the chart. Who knew a bee could be purple? That's the joy of needlecraft. You can change anything to suit the situation.

Well, wish me luck with this new start. I hope to have some pictures of it soon.

Melbourne Cup

I was back at work yesterday and tried to take it easy. A few jobs needed to be done which allowed me to sit down, so I took full advantage of it. I'm still not back to my 100% but am getting better each day. Just waiting for this dreaded bug to leave my system entirely.

Today I didn't have to go to work because it's a public holiday in the Melbourne metropolitan region. The first Tuesday of November each year celebrates our biggest horse race in the country, The Melbourne Cup. I'm not big on horses but usually watch the race on TV when it's running. This year's race finished an hour or so ago and the winner was an overseas horse called Americain. Both horse and jockey come from France. The local favourite was So You Think which ended up coming third in the race.

It's a big day for those who go to the race. They usually get dressed up in their finest outfits which some have planned months in advance. Unfortunately you can't predict the weather in Melbourne and today it was overcast and rained for part of the day (before and during the race). Some years it can be wonderfully sunny but it's pot luck as to how the weather will turn out this time of year.

Myself, I've never been to the race and just enjoy the day off from work. Today I've had a relaxing day since I'm still trying to get over the flu. I've been looking at what project I could do next and may have found something. A small Shepherd's Bush kit which I find are handy as everything you need to stitch it is included in the kit. So hopefully I'll have something in the way of stitching to show you soon. I'll keep you posted...

Happy Halloween

A big spooky hello to those of you who celebrate the Halloween Holiday. Here in Australia we don't actually get a holiday for this occasion but it is still celebrated a little with young children wandering around, trick or treating throughout the neighbourhood. The stores of course like to get into the act and sell a variety of Halloween costumes and an assortment of related products. Anyway, I hope you're all enjoying the celebrations whatever you do to mark the occasion.

It's been a while since I dropped by last so I thought I better do an update to let you know that all is well. Actually, all was not well last week. I was home all week with the flu and will go back to work tomorrow for the first time since. I still have the last bit of it lingering but I can't stay home forever, right? My girls (cats) enjoyed having me home. A little more entertainment for them during the day. Plus they were able to get a snack here and there that they don't normally have while I'm at work. Still, I'm sure they'll love the peace and quiet when I go back.

So the picture up above is one I've taken and played around with for Halloween. It's of Shepherd's Bush Little Witch that I stitched up a number of years ago. It's got the Jill Rensel mat around it and has a black wooden frame with detail. I thought it was quite suitable for this time of year to show you a picture of it.

The other things I have to show you is some charts I bought a short while ago from Country Stitches. I love Brenda's designs and find it hard not to add them to my stash every now and then.

Nothing else to show right now. I'm still not stitching which is quite annoying (to you and to me). I'll have to find something really tiny to do, to get back into it. I know I have some small projects in my stash, it's just a matter of sorting through them and finding one that suits. I've had a couple of offers for SALs which is very nice but I'm not in the right frame of mind to tackle this. So I will have to decline on the offers, sorry. I will do one again some day, I'm sure.

What's New Pussy Cat?

A few people lately have been wanting to know when I was going to do another edition of my famous 'Pussy Magazine'. Well, wait no more! Here it is...

(Remember this is supposed to be light hearted and meant to give you a laugh. I don't intend to offend anyone.)

So this cover has my youngest Birman, Charlotte on it. She's gazing out the window wondering where the sun has gone. Since we are still in Winter here, this edition has articles relating to the season. Pity you only get the chance to view the front cover because you'll be amazed what's inside! Good luck finding yourself a copy.

I'm sorry that my blog's been very quiet lately but my lack of stitching has led to a lack of enthusiasm for blogging. I still haven't started anything new but I do have something to show you. It's the latest Girl Club Stacy Nash kit for which I'm a member through Country Sampler. It arrived recently and I thought I would share some pictures with you.

It's called the Country Sampler Liberty 1776 Sewing Pouch. It includes lovely pieces of fabrics as always, so you're never disappointed. There's some 32ct Dirty linen, reproduction cotton print fabric in natural with a red flower dotted throughout, a piece each of natural and olive silk matka, and your thread along with a mother-of-pearl button. Stacy has been raving lately about the silk matka and now I can see why. It's really lovely and quite rustic looking with its uneven weave. I don't know whether you would cross stitch on it but you could probably try if you like a challenge. I think it's purpose is more of a fabric than a linen if you know what I mean. So using it as a backing or applique would serve it better.

I see a few others are going through a bit of a lull with their needlework so I'm in good company. We all have highs and lows with whatever we do in life. I don't want to force the issue with my stitching because then it will feel like a chore, which it shouldn't. I will get the enthusiasm back again in time so please stay with me and look out for a future post update. Thanks to those who have emailed or commented on how I am. Everything is fine, though it's still dam cold here where I live. Maybe when the warmer weather comes and there is more light I will want to pick up my needle again. Thank you all for the time you take to comment and read my blog.

Just before I go I will leave you with a picture of my adorable cats. I love them to bits and they are both keeping warm during this cold weather we're having. They get along so well and are truly great friends for each other. They keep each other company while Mum spends long days at work. This photo was taken while they were on their cat house. They both just squeeze themselves on the top of it and sometimes have a battle of the wills to see who can push the other off so they can have it all to themselves. This day though, they were happy to share.

My First Shepherd's Bush - Evening Sampler

My, how long it's been since my last post. I must apologise for the absence but to tell you the truth, I haven't felt like stitching or blogging lately. I guess we all go through these moments but mine seems to be going on for a while. Just as a fill-in I have something to show you from many years ago.

Shepherd's Bush - Evening Sampler

Stitched in 1994

This one is going back sixteen years to 1994. It was my first Shepherd's Bush pattern that I stitched. Designed by Tina Richards Herman in 1991, Evening Sampler is one of many of her creations that I like. I worked it using mainly the recommended threads except for the house filled in with a purple colour instead of a grey. The fabric was a Lugana 25ct in Mushroom or Bone (can't quite remember now). I used two threads for the most part and one for the words and other details. Plenty of beads are used throughout as well. This design is still available at Shepherd's Bush and takes you back to their earlier style of patterns.

The frame I chose for it is red wood with an aqua colour filled around the edges to tone in with the aqua in the stitched piece. I had this framed many years ago as well, not just recently.

These earlier patterns of SB come with more than just one design. Evening Sampler includes three small patterns that they placed on fabric blocks. They also have a needle roll shown that they've taken elements of the main design to create. Lovely little bonuses from the one chart. The needle roll would be nice to do one day. It's Winter time here so I thought I'd change my blog background to coincide with it. We're getting a proper Winter with cold mornings, cold days, and cold nights. It's just so cold! Rain and cloudy days are the order of the day. I go into hibernation mode like a grizzly, old, bear. Maybe not so much the grizzly, hopefully not the old, but definitely bear like behaviour by trying to keep warm. I just dream of those of you who are in the northern climes and are getting some sunny weather now. Enjoy those warm days ahead. I'll just snuggle up with my mohair blanket and crank the heat up!

A Quick Finish ~ Buzz Buzz Bee

Instant satisfaction with this one! Only a day's stitching involved and already a finish is created. I stitched this small kit on Saturday and here's the end result.

For me to stitch this in a day, it has to be small. The design size measures 1" x 3 1/2" approx. which makes it very tiny. Done in silk threads with a gorgeous bee charm to add.

As mentioned in my last post, this little kit is a Shepherd's Bush exclusive and can be purchased via them direct only. The kit comes with the surrounding mat and all that it needs is the frame.

I knew I wasn't going to get through a bigger design very quickly and I wanted something that would be quick to do, so I knew I could count on a SB piece to suit. Unlike me, I haven't done any of their designs this year so I needed to rectify that. Now I'm happy, and I have another finish under my belt (albeit a small one) and I can do a little happy dance!

So small was this one that I could even use my mini hoop to stitch it up. So cute!

I've picked up my needle again and have chosen a Shepherd's Bush kit as my next project. Since I haven't done any of their designs so far this year, I thought I would have a look in my stash and find a quick one of theirs to do. Thank you all so much for your kind words on my Ah, 'Tis Spring finish. I forgot to mention that the chart calls for two skeins of DMC 3848 (or WDW Dove if using the conversion). Since I did mine on 35ct fabric using one thread, I only needed one skein, though I didn't have much left over from that skein. The pattern was a joy to stitch, and now my Mum wants to stitch it too!

I Had To Add The Words

I had planned on posting a lot sooner than now, so I'm sorry if you've been waiting for the surprise I mentioned in my last update. I said you'd probably see Ah, 'Tis Spring pop up again and here she is. All finished with the words added. I know I could have left it as it was but I felt that the words complimented the folksy feel of the piece. I also added the bunny's nose and mouth.

I actually got this finished at the start of the month. Then for the past week I've had an eye infection and have hardly been on the computer at all. I'm still needing to take drops for my eye but it's a lot more comfortable than what it was, though still a little sore. So I thought I'd update my blog before more time passed.

Now onto my finish. This was such a fun pattern to work on and I've loved the colour changes to the original pattern. I can't take credit for coming up with the different thread choices though. They have been worked out by the lovely ladies at Shepherd's Bush. Lots of variegated colours in cotton threads, using assorted brands, but still in keeping with the original colour scheme. This is my version of Ah, 'Tis Spring...

The changes to these that I made was the carrot tops in the grass at the bottom, which I did in Guacamole. I thought they stood out more using this than the darker green would have. I got the symbols mixed up and did the basket pattern in Bean Sprout rather than Onion Skin. I quite liked it so I decided to leave it that way. The last change was with the wording. SB had chosen Dublin Bay which is a darker blue. I wasn't going to be comfortable with that and chose Onion Skin instead. The original chart had called for a 'drab brown' colour and thought Onion Skin fitted nicely. I'm so pleased with the result. I also wanted to take the opportunity to say a big thanks to Loraine for helping me with the threads too. She was my angel in need with this project. I'm seriously considering working on the latest Stacy Nash Group project I received in the mail recently (see last post). I really like it! Whatever I do, it will be something small. I'm just not stitching a lot lately to get through a bigger piece.

Stacy Nash Girl Club ~ Kit Two

I received my second kit for the year in the mail, of the Stacy Nash Girl Club, that's organised by Jeanne of Country Sampler. This one's a sewing roll and I just love it! The fabrics, thread colours, and design, are all wonderful. There's even a piece of silk ribbon included to complete the kit.

When is a finish, not a finish? When you're still deciding whether you want to leave it like it is or add more to it. This is where I am with Ah, 'Tis Spring. I could quite easily leave it as is, or should I add the words to it?

I think because it's a bunny, it makes me feel like it's an Easter design. Our Easter here in Australia doesn't occur in Spring, it falls during our Autumn. This is why I've been wondering whether to add the words to it. Although when you look at it, there's no eggs to be seen. So it probably is more about the new growth that happens in Spring, with tulips popping up, and rabbits can also signify this with their breeding. So I may end up stitching the wording too. Think I'll just put it aside for now though. I also wanted to add a button to her dress but I haven't been able to find one that suits which is small enough. So you may see this design popping up again in the future, once I've added to it. Anyway, this is where I've left it.

I really haven't been getting into my needlework much lately, nor have I been blogging or commenting much on other blogs. I know we all go through different phases and life can be busy in other areas sometimes. It's nice to know we can pick up our stitching whenever the mood takes us, and be assured that it will still be there the next time we're ready for some more.

Another stitching session late yesterday afternoon/evening was all I achieved this past week. I've stitched the bunny's other arm with flower in hand and am getting a little further along with her dress.

Ah, 'Tis Spring - 18 April 2010

This picture was taken with my scanner as the light is poor when I'm getting home these days.

Daylight savings is over, the days a little shorter, and soon the cooler weather will be upon us in Australia (some parts anyway). This past weekend though, the weather was glorious! Over the two day break, I must have spent a whole day out in the garden. I was planting and pruning, out in the beautiful warmth of the sun. I wish we got more of this type of weather. Not too hot, not too cold, but just right (I should call it Goldilocks Weather). I love getting out in the garden when it's like this.

Last week I was too tired after work to feel like doing any stitching. I'm really wanting to get my bunny finished though. Maybe I should stay off the computer all week and see if I can get more done. Don't know whether I could stick to that plan really, I like the net too much. I'll see what I can do.

Ah, 'Tis Spring - 10 April 2010

I'm up to the bunny's armpits now which is probably a funny place to be. Hope there's no 'hares' under those arms (ha, ha). Oops, there's that sense of humour of mine popping out again. So I've stitched one arm and did the basket with a solitary carrot in it. I guess I could add a few more carrots but I'll just leave it the same as the design.

This design is so much better in real life than it looks on the chart. Maybe it's the variegated threads I'm using that's making it so special. I'm really enjoying it anyway.

The weather's turned a little sour here lately. After a gorgeous Easter weekend, this past weekend was cooler, very windy, with some rain. The rain is good, we can do with more of that, but the cold and wind can stay away. I guess Mother Nature is giving us a taste of Winter a little early.

I've managed to stitch around the pocket (pocket and carrot is done in two threads) and I think it's having the effect of standing out a little more than the dress.

I've decided to do the pocket and carrot on the bunny's dress with two threads to bring it forward a little. I think this will create the effect I'm looking for.

The colours in these photos have brought up the real toning of the Sand fabric I'm using.

I hope you've all had a lovely Easter break, with family and friends, perhaps some gardening, odd jobs around the house, and definitely a little stitching in the mix. Oh, and there's those things we know as Easter eggs! Yummmmmmmm. It's the time of year when we can indulge in a bit more chocolate than we normally would, and get away with it. Perhaps not so much around the waist but the eating part we can still enjoy. My Easter break has had all of the above with some glorious weather thrown in as well. Beautiful sunshine, mid temperatures, really wonderful Autumn weather. It's one of my favourite times of year.

I got some prim accessories also, keys and rusty old pins. I also wanted to get a piece of Platinum Belfast to see what the colour was like. Brenda uses it in so many of her patterns and I was curious. It is a little like Weeks Dye Works Linen in comparison.

There was a chart that was out of stock but was arriving in a week or so of my order, so Brenda kindly held back on sending my other items so they could be shipped together. When she told me she had sent my package after this slight delay, she mentioned I'd be busy. I had forgotten most of what I'd bought so by the time I received the parcel in the mail, I can understand what she meant! Perhaps I went a bit overboard but what a delight to receive all these goodies in the mail.

Now, I have a little cat story to tell. On the weekend I was out in my front yard, pottering around in the garden. I allow my two cats out for a romp whenever I go out the front (as they're normally indoor cats) and they love it. This day I was keeping an eye on them and noticed they were hovering around the front gate. The gate has a gap at the bottom, big enough for them to fit through. My youngest, Charlotte, thought she'd pop under and have a look at what's on the other side of the gate. I saw this and quickly called her back in, and she immediately came back. Then I got into some weeding and forgot about them for a few minutes. When I looked around to see where they both were, I could see Sophie but Charlotte was nowhere to be seen. I walked around the front yard, nothing, then went around the back yard, nothing, had another look round the front, called out her name and gave a whistle or two, but still nothing. Then I gave it one more try with calling her name and then I heard this little meow. Have a guess where she was... in the next door neighbour's yard! I went to the front, opened the gate and started walking to the neighbour's, then all of a sudden out she comes scurrying like she couldn't wait to get back to familiar surroundings. What a cheeky thing she was. This is the first (and hopefully the last) time she's been out of my property. Birmans are an indoor breed so you have to be careful if you let them outside. My girls usually love to wander in the front yard for a short time, but I guess Charlotte was feeling a bit more adventurous on this day.

Ah, 'Tis Spring - 26 March 2010

I decided to do the carrot tops in WDW Guacamole which is the same colour as the top section of the grass. The actual grass in my pictures is some cat grass I'm growing for my girls (cats not humans). Being indoor cats, they don't normally have access to grass. Sometimes I let them outside while I'm there and they like to potter around and will eat some grass then. It's good for their digestive system.

I've been given another award recently from Theresa and Marylin. Thank you ladies for thinking of me when passing on this award.

I am supposed to now pass it on to 12 others. Please forgive me, but I have recently been given an award and am finding it hard to come up with 12 more people to pass this one onto. I do get a bit overwhelmed by these awards and sometimes I try to pass them on but other times I find it difficult. I do appreciate the time and thought to give it to me in the first place though.

After a busy weekend I've had, I'm looking forward to working a four day week next week instead of five. Over the Easter break I plan to put some plants in the garden that I've bought recently. It will be nice to get that extra time to enjoy a bit of gardening.

A New Pincushion

I dropped into my favourite local gift ware shop recently to ask about the price of a quilted throw that had caught my eye. Well, the price of the throw was far more than I would have paid but they had a matching cushion that was more reasonably priced. It was white and soft pink which would look lovely in my bedroom that has a slight shabby chic look to it. So I purchased the cushion but not the throw ( I may show you it another time).

Anyway, I deviate a little because as I initially walked through the doorway of this shop I noticed a pincushion I had seen there before, that was on sale. When I originally saw it a while back, the price of it was too expensive. I thought to myself if they reduce it in price later on then I'd love to get it. Then I completely forgot about it after that. This time when I saw it again, it had been reduced by 50%! I didn't even need to think about it. I picked it straight up in my hot little hands.

It's so pretty with its gorgeous lace, velvet, and ribbon roses. I'd like to say that I made it myself but it's made by Miss Rose Sister Violet which is a wholesaler company in Australia. You'll find exquisite gift ware items from them in shops occasionally but they also sell vintage accessories to create your own treasures.

Bunny Shoes

How's this for a cute shoe? I've began stitching the bunny and simply love those shoes she's wearing.

It's going to be a sweet design but I'm wondering how much of her dress I'll do before I'm over it. This forms the majority of the pattern and there's going to be lots of stitching to get it finished. It's being worked with Weeks Dye Works Dove thread which I just love, so I have that going for it. I'll just be positive and enjoy the whole experience.

Ah, 'Tis Spring - 21 March 2010

I haven't finished the carrots because the thread that's suggested for the leaves (if that's what you call them) is the same one used at the bottom section of the grass. It's not going to stand out enough so I'm going to have to change it. I may do the same as what's used for the top section instead.

Anyway, I'm loving the delicateness of using the one thread for this pattern. I think I've worked out what the proper colour of the fabric is that I'm using too. I'm pretty sure it's 35ct Sand. The shop I purchased it from (locally) didn't put a very good description on it.

This pattern's really making me feel like Easter's just around the corner.

A New Start ~ Ah, 'Tis Spring

You can tell I'm back at work now - less blogging and stitching time. I'm happy to say though that I've started on Ah, 'Tis Spring and have chosen to do it on a 35ct Linen (322). This is a rich, butter yellow. I had the choice of 28ct Alabaster also but I was drawn to the warm tone of the butter colour. Unfortunately the photos don't show its true colour very well.

So I made a start on Wednesday but after getting everything sorted out first (cutting fabric, bagging threads, counting to starting position), I didn't get very far with my stitching. Only a couple of rows at the bottom.

Then I got a little more progress done last night. Some more of the grass and there's some carrots popping up throughout. I'm stitching this using 1 over 2 threads. The threads are a variety of brands and it's a conversion from the DMC listed in the chart (not my conversion though).

The weather here has been lovely lately. Autumn can be the most settled time of the year, with warm temperatures without being too hot here. Though last year we didn't get much Autumn weather sadly. Anyway, today I've been busy out in the garden, doing some minor pruning and tidying up. I'm finally getting my garden into some sort of order and it's a nice feeling. I've planted a few more plants recently, I have some more to be planted, and I've purchased a couple of rose bushes to put in the garden. Roses are what I'm wanting to get more of. I love their hardiness, the blooms, and I'd like to be able to cut their flowers to bring inside. Wonderfully scented varieties I like, and I just adore David Austin roses with their multiple petals. I'm always drawn to the pink ones too. It's funny, I love pink these days, but I never used to be fussed about it when I was growing up. Our tastes do change over the years.

An Award

I've been lucky enough to receive an award from two of my stitching friends! A big thanks goes to Melissa and Su for honouring me in such a way.

Now I'm going to combine the two together but they're both slightly different. One is seven things about yourself that people may not know and pass the award onto seven, the other is the same except it's ten. So I'll tell you ten things about me and will hand it on to seven, if that's OK.

I have only owned 3 cars in my 25 years of driving - first two were manuals, and my current one is an automatic.

I hate catching public transport and will rarely use it.

My first overseas trip was on my own. I went to England when I was 23 to meet up with my penpal (male) but we didn't get along as well as I had hoped. He had a strange sense of humour, an annoying laugh, and I had to spend two weeks with him on a bus trip around Europe!

I have only been to two other states in Australia, apart from Victoria where I live - New South Wales and Queensland.

I have blue eyes.

Sometimes I buy more stash than what I show on my blog! Naughty, aren't I?

I'm more reserved/quiet when I first meet people, until I get to know them a bit better.

I love Colonial/American and primitive type furniture. Anything that looks old and worn and has character.

I've only had three jobs in all my life. My current one I've been employed with the same company for 22 years.

My favourite cut flower are gerberas (especially pink!). I love how colourful a bunch of mixed coloured gerberas look - so happy and cheerful.

Another Finish ~ Angel In Your Heart

I finished Angel In Your Heart today and have been a bit creative with my completed piece. See what you think.

After placing French Knots throughout the Angel's dress, it began to look like she had chicken pox! So I had a thought and came up with the idea of adding some Lazy Daisy stitches to some of the French Knots to make flowers. I may pull out some of the French Knots as I still think it looks a bit busy.

I also put a Seed Bead in the centre of the flower at the top of her dress. This was left blank on the chart so you could do whichever you wanted.

Then I stitched the year and my initials down the bottom right of the design. There was a bit of a blank area which made room for this. In the same area I added a Mother of Pearl button in the shape of a heart.

So with these changes and different threads I used, I've made a few modifications compared to the original design. I've still tried to keep with the original colour tones though.

The only original thread I kept was Avocado for the border. The rest I substituted mainly because I looked at what was in my stash rather than buying the called for threads. The Cidermill Brown was for the words and eyes, Prickly Pear was the darker pink, Little Pink Peony was the lighter pink, Snowflake was for the Angel's wings, Whitewash was for her face, 677 was for the stars, and 3348 was for the French Knots.

My favourite part of the design has to be the Angel's wings. They're done in Smyrna Crosses and give a great effect.

I've loved stitching this piece and I hope you've enjoyed my progress on it just as much.

My next project will be Ah, 'Tis Spring. Although it's Autumn where I am, I love the bunny on it and with Easter coming up, it's a perfect time to stitch it.

Three finishes for the year so far, so I'm on track for a finish a month. Not that I'm aiming at that, I just like to stitch at an unregulated pace most of the time. Enjoyment is the key.

SAL ~ with Melissa of Words And Blooms

Linen choices and thread thickness were the main decisions for me at the start. I decided on WDW 35ct Linen because I had it in my stash, and it looked similar to what was used on the original design. Being 35ct I normally use one thread so I went with this theory on BK&BT. Looking back I think two threads would have been suitable for this design, but I'm still happy with the result that's been achieved. I stayed with the recommended DMC threads because I liked the colours of them, which was part of the appeal of this pattern.

My least favourite part (if there is one) were the leaves. I just didn't enjoy stitching them as much as other things. Maybe it was the quantity - you know, novelty wore off after a few. My favourite was the woman with her pantaloons. They're only peeking out from under her dress but I love the look of them! Simple but effective.

Can't forget the man with his big pants.

Now to how I'll finish this stitched project. I'm still tempted to stain it with Walnut Crystals and if I do I will show you the end result. I will also get this one framed in the future. I've been buying too much stash lately to get anything framed just now though.

Next up are threads. These ones are for a project I'll be doing soon. The clue is in one of the charts above.

OK, you guessed it.

Then some linens.

The top three WDW are 35ct with the Belfast being 32ct. The Beige has the slightest bit of a green tone to it if anything. It's only an undertone so not too obvious and it's a better colour than I thought it would be. The Linen has come up a bit pinkish in the photo, which it's not. It's an off-white colour and the same I'm doing BK&BT on. I love it and wanted more on hand. The other two I didn't get for any particular project but there will be ones where I'll need a blue coloured fabric for them. Don't they look scrumptious?

And lastly, a couple of Wildflowers threads which were being cleared out at a good discount.

So a bit of a mixture of things there. I know I always like seeing other peoples stash when they show it on their blogs, so that's why I like to show mine. You sometimes see something you hadn't before. I love those little discoveries.

Latest on BK&BT - it's finished! Yes, I stitched the last stitches today. The man and woman have eyes now and I'll show you pictures of it tomorrow. I'm going to get back to Angel In Your Heart next and hopefully it won't take much longer to complete.

I got a decent amount done by my standards yesterday on BK&BT. I'm now down to a few leaves on the right of the tree, five more letters, and just the rest of the border to go. I think I'll try to finish it off tomorrow!

BE KIND & BE TRUE - 6 March 2010 (SAL with Melissa)

I love the colours Brenda has chosen for this pattern and it's been a delight to see it unfold.

There's a new movie out called Dear John, and I went to see it today. Wonderful! A really lovely movie that held your interest throughout. I didn't cry but my eyes may have had the slightest tear towards the end. It could have kept going where it ended but was left up to you to imagine what would have happened. Not a horrid war movie either as these don't appeal to me. So try and see it if you can.

A Lovely Day Out

I had a day out yesterday with my Mum. We went to Yarragon where our favourite quilting/stitching shop is. We hadn't been for a few months so we took the opportunity while I'm still on leave to enjoy the day out together. I've mentioned the quilting shop Candleberry Country before and since our last trip, it's had a facelift with a coat of paint on the outside. It used to be a duck egg blue.

I didn't want to spend much and by my standards I was quite restrained. I found a mixed bag of wool and felt cuts, a few bits of fabric I liked, some buttons, and a piece of white lace trim.

The bag of brown buttons was my first find. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it! If you remember I bought a similar bag last year of cream coloured ones. I said to myself, if I ever saw another bag of them I would get some. I'll be able to add them to my stitcheries in the future.

The packet of cream buttons I bought are vintage style. They could be used for the middle of a biscornu or anything really. I just have to grab these things when I see them because they won't be there the next time, then I work out what to do with them later on.

While we were at Yarragon we also went to Annabelle's which is a delightful shop filled with decorating treasures with that feminine look. They have a few French Provincial style furniture there too. Mum found a gorgeous pink and white quilt to give to her youngest grand daughter.

Then we had a scrumptious bite to eat at a cafe which filled us up for the rest of the day. The weather was lovely and I always enjoy the drive to Yarragon as it's heading away from the city and out of heavy traffic.

So onto my stitching update. I am still working on BK&BT and haven't done a lot over the last few days. Other things to do (like yesterday) and not as much stitching time. I'm trying to get some more done on it today and after this post I'll get back to it and work on it more tonight. I got all the branches done on the tree last night and here's where I'm up to.

Now I haven't been stitching much in the last couple of days. I've been out or had people visiting, but I got a little done tonight. I think Melissa is ahead of me as she only has some letters and personalization to complete. I'm still working on the tree and have the rest of the letters to do. All that's needed is some quality stitching time to get closer to finishing this lovely sampler.

Now man and woman are standing together, apart from the tree separating them that is. :)

I was out for most of the day shopping yesterday and today I've been to a 50th celebration for one of my work colleagues, which hasn't left much stitching time. Last night I felt tired after walking around for so long at the shops and tonight I think I'll have a quiet one. There's a show I want to watch on TV so I think I'll do that instead of my stitching. Plus I want to give Melissa a chance to catch up with me since she's been a bit under the weather lately (feeling sick). Sending good health to you Melissa, I do hope you're feeling much better and full of energy real soon. I'm having so much fun with this SAL and looking forward to our next step with it.

Branching Out

I love how the more you progress with a design the more interesting it gets.

Linen & Nashville

I bought some linens recently from Wyndham Needleworks since they were on special. Mostly R & R linens as they're not always available 'on hand' at a lot of needlework shops. You know, I find it hard to buy linens online because sometimes when you receive them the colour looks different to what you were expecting. Overall I'm quite happy with these.

Top to Bottom - R & R Reproductions 35ct Kansas City Blend, 35ct Liberty Gathering Gray, 40ct Liberty Gathering Gray, and 32ct Zweigart Golden Sand

Left to Right - R & R Reproductions 30ct Mink, and 35ct Park City Blend

It's nice to have a few linens on hand to go with a new project. Keep in mind though that R & R linens tend to be on the stiff side.

Now onto Nashville Market. I'm sure most of you are up to date with what's been released by now? So what's your favourites? I absolutely love SB Blue Snowman!!! I'm a real sucker for these snowmen series they do and this one is just gorgeous.

Other favourites of the new releases are:

Melissa hasn't been feeling the best so she didn't get a lot done either. Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon and next time I'll have some pictures to show.

Moving at a Fast Pace

Melissa and I are working our way through BK&BT and yesterday I was able to get the woman, flowers, and a couple of birdies done. I ended up stitching day and night until 12am to get this far! I really wanted to finish her off before I went to bed. Her eyes will come later as they're done with French Knots. Melissa has started work on the tree and finished the man, so she's doing the opposite side to me.

I've had a busier day today with things to get done so I'm only going to get a few hours in of this SAL tonight. It will be a few hours well spent anyway.

Now I have some new/old scissors to show you, which I'm sure you've noticed in the photos above. They're genuine antique style which I bought on eBay recently. I thought they looked a bit like the ones Stacy Nash uses in her photos. They just have a bit more detail on them. They're only 3 3/4" in length and are more for decoration rather than proper needlework scissors.

What an Honour!

As you know I'm stitching BK&BT as a SAL with Melissa. She's brought to my attention that Brenda, who designed this chart, has mentioned our SAL on her blog! How cool is that and what an honour to have this mentioned in such a way. Now the pressure's on, Melissa. :)

Anyway, I'm trying my best to keep up and hold my end of the bargain. I'm just glad we chose to do this while I'm on annual leave from work and Melissa herself is on a break. Actually I think a SAL is good every once in a while. It really drives you to want to stitch more. I surely wouldn't have done this much in a short space of time if it wasn't for Melissa, so thank you my stitching buddy! She has since got a bit further with hers as she's now working on the tree and man.

This is where I got to after yesterday's session through the afternoon/evening.

BE KIND & BE TRUE - 22 February (SAL with Melissa)

Melissa and I are both working with one thread. The original design calls for two on a 32ct fabric. Since we're working on 35ct we thought the one thread would be enough. You could quite easily do two threads on either count though. We'll call ours the more primitive or frugal version shall we say. :)

I'd really love to finish mine off with walnut crystals as Brenda has hers, to give it that aged look. Has anyone used this technique and how did it turn out? What would be the best way to do it? I'd appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

Be Kind & Be True - started 20 February 2010

I made a start on BK&BT yesterday and was able to get a number of hours of stitching time done on it. I'm starting from the bottom and working my way up. As a coincidence, I hear Melissa is doing the same and has completed as much as I did. How's that for synchronization? I think she's going to post her progress in the next day or so.

I love WDW fabrics and the 35ct is my favourite. The colour Linen which I'm working on is very versatile and would suit a lot of designs. Some fabric colours you're limited to what it would go with but this colour could blend in well with many colour palettes.

The scissors in my photos, I got from Yuko. I thought they looked lovely with this style of design.

I've been out most of today so I'm going to have a quiet night at home. I'll pick up this project tomorrow and work some more on it then.

It uses all DMC threads and the fabric I've chosen is WDW 35ct Linen. This is the same as what I've been working on Angel In Your Heart with. It will be interesting to see the same fabric with a different thread palette. I'm stitching 1 over 2.

Angel In Your Heart - 18 February 2010

The chart calls for two DMC thread colours. I decided to change to a variegated GA Sampler Thread called Cidermill Brown. It's softly variegated but I am still happy with the way it looks.

I've been working some more on it last night (as it's now early Saturday my time) but have not been able to finish it yet. I'm going to be starting on another project with Melissa, so I'll try to complete Angel while I'm doing the SAL at some stage.

Angel In Your Heart - 17 February 2010

For her wings I've used WDW Snowflake which has the softest of pink running through it. I've also used this thread for her legs.

The wings are outlined with cross stitches then filled in with Smyrna crosses. A really lovely effect which makes a feature of them. This is probably my favourite part of the design.

Well, I better get back to it. Thank you all for your compliments on my thread choices. For some reason this design has been easy to choose a different conversion. I've even done the words in a variegated thread. More about it next time.

I'm working away on the Angel but there's more to her than you may think. It seems to be taking me a while to complete her. The whole project has been so enjoyable and I can't wait to see how it looks finished.

Angel In Your Heart - 16 February 2010

Another thread change for her face. I chose WDW Whitewash which has a soft cream tone running through the white. Oh, and I haven't put any eyes on her yet. Don't worry, they're still to come.

I'll have to get a wriggle on to get it all finished because Melissa and I are itching to start our SAL. We're going to make a start on it by the end of the week. Melissa informed me that Kellie has done Be Kind & Be True, so I had to have a look and it's turned out terrific! So I hope you'll join us on our fun little adventure and keep up with our progress on it.

Stacy Nash ~ First Kit for 2010 Girl Club

I'm still in the SN Girl Club for the moment and I received her first kit for 2010 recently. It's a heart needlebook and the fabrics you get with the kit are just divine. The red patterned fabric that goes inside already has an aged tone to it and the red piece of wool is wonderfully soft.

On another note, I went to see It's Complicated at the pictures on Sunday. I am happy to say I loved it! So many little funny moments throughout. Meryl Streep's acting was wonderful (just a look on her face and you knew exactly what she was thinking), and the setting of the movie was lovely. She lived on this large property in a character filled house, and had the most perfect looking vegetable garden I've seen. A really enjoyable movie, I'm so glad I got to see it.

I hope everyone has a lovely Valentine's Day today. I'm going to the pictures this afternoon to see It's Complicated. I probably should be seeing Valentine's Day instead but I've been wanting to see It's Complicated ever since I heard about it earlier last year. There's supposed to be some very funny bits in it and a very twisted romantic situation. I'll let you know what it's like.

Angel In Your Heart - 13 February 2010

Some people have been asking me where I got this chart from. I purchased it through Stitching Bits and Bobs last year. I think I may have just stumbled across it and loved the look and colours of it. Even though I've changed most of the threads, I've still kept to the original colour scheme of the chart.

Silk or Cotton

I've been working away on Angel In Your Heart, trying to get more done than what I have been lately. My latest dilemma was what yellow thread to finally do the stars with. I've now decided to use DMC 677 rather than Soie D'Alger 4232. The 677 is a softer yellow and blends in better with the other colours I'm using. I found the 4232 stood out a bit much and I could see this being the focal point of the design, which it shouldn't. The 677 is the star at the top and the rest will be redone.

Angel In Your Heart - 12 February 2010

These pictures are out of date now as I've been stitching away this afternoon while watching the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics. I've now changed the stars to DMC 677 and got some more of the Angel completed. I'll show you updated photos next time.

A Surprise in the Mail

I came home from work today to find a small packet poking out of my front fence, where the postman had left it near my letter box. First I thought it was some missing items I had ordered months ago, then I looked at the sender's details and discovered it was from my dear stitching/blogging friend, Melissa in Canada! Wow, what a surprise. She's remembered that it's my birthday this month and sent me a small gift to mark the occasion.

Inside was a gorgeous card with a cat on the front (she knows I love cats) and a selection of pink and green silk threads (she also knows I like pink and green together). I love them and what a thoughtful gesture from her.

The threads are from a name called Hand Dyed Fibers which I haven't heard of before. The greens are a silk perle #8 and the pinks are a 6 stranded silk.

Thank you so much, Melissa! You're very thoughtful and they're a beautiful gift. So nice to receive something when you're not expecting it. You made my day!

A Package Arrived

I received an order I'd put through to Country Stitches in the mail yesterday. It has the chart I'm going to work on next (after I've finished Angel In Your Heart), and some other things I decided to get.

First up I got some charts from With Thy Needle & Thread. They're fast becoming one of my favourite designers.

Be Kind & Be True is what I'm going to work on next. I will be doing this as a SAL with Melissa. We both loved this chart when we discovered it and are looking so forward to working together on it.

I also got a chart by Stacy Nash.

Then lastly some bits and pieces. Reproduction fabrics which will go with a few Stacy Nash patterns I have, some old looking rusty snowflake charms, linen thread, and primitive rusty safety pins with bells. All great for primitive needlework.

I'll also update you on how I'm going with Angel In Your Heart. I haven't had a lot of stitching time so not much progress to show. I'm just tossing up on the colour I'll settle on for the stars in the design. The one I chose has come up a bit deeper to what I wanted, though it still maybe alright. I went to a craft shop a lunch time today while at work and had a look at some yellow DMC threads. I picked out a few and the one I'm leaning towards is 677. It's a little softer and has the slightest green tinge to it. The original colour in the design is GA Summer Meadow which doesn't really work for me. It's all down to personal choice. Here's a peek of my progress with the deeper yellow (Soie D'Alger Silk 4232) that I may pull out.

Summer Blooms

These blooms are taken from my garden. They are from a Plumbago bush and it's one of my favourite plants. This time of year (Summer) it is in full flower. I thought I'd cut some to put in a jug and bring inside so I could enjoy the wonderful colour indoors as well.

I also have a white variety in my garden, along with a pale blue. They are such a hardy plant, and you can prune them to a more formal shape or let them ramble for an informal look. I let mine ramble for a while then cut them back to encourage new growth.

Scissors from Yuko

Last week I received a package from Japan! They had inside scissors I'd ordered from dear Yuko. Now these scissors are just divine and I think a few of us have bought them from her so you may see them popping up in our photos from time to time.

My favourites and the one I'd seen before but didn't know where to get them, are the right ones with the beautiful detailed handles. Though I'm happy with each of the others just as much because they're all different. They range in size from about 4 - 4 1/2 inches. They don't feel big to handle which is how I like them.

Now if you're interested in getting some of them for yourself (or even a gift), you can visit Yuko's Scissor Blog for details. Please though, don't expect her to have endless amounts on hand since she has to order them in herself and may not be able to get many from her supplier. Summer Stitching

Summertime brings a feeling to stitching like no other season. The light is brighter, the air is warmer, and your mood is happier. Stitching in Summer leaves you filled with joy at the soft colours you create.

I'm filled with happiness at what I'm creating with Angel In Your Heart. The colours are working well and I love the combination of pinks and greens. The lighter pink I've chosen is a Crescent Colours called Little Pink Peony. My progress from yesterday...

This is such a pretty design and I think I've settled on all the colour substitutions I'm making. Even the centres of the flowers have a basket weave stitch to add interest.

I only wish I had more time to spend on this project. On the plus side though, I get to enjoy it for longer.

Snow Hill ~ With Mats

Well finally I'm showing you the Jill Rensel mat I bought at The Silver Needle sale. It's for a design I finished back in 2004 called Snow Hill by Shepherd's Bush. Because of the shape of the design, framing it was probably going to be the only way to go with it so I thought the mats would be lovely to enhance the overall look.

Jill's mats are the best I've seen. I don't know anyone who does them any better. They will compliment a design without distracting from it. Her beautiful hand painted artwork always ties in with what appears in the stitched design.

As mentioned, I stitched Snow Hill back in 2004. Such a pretty little pattern which comes in kit form including all silk threads, fabric, and clay button. The fabric is 32ct Creek Bed Brown by R & R.

The colour of the mat was a wonderful surprise to me. I thought it was going to be more of a blue/grey tone but turned out to be brown/grey. This will go with my decor at home much better and appeals to my own taste more.

Now all I have to do is find a frame for it!

A New Project ~ Angel In Your Heart

I've made a start on something new! It's by Ewe & Eye & Friends (Twisted Threads) called Angel In Your Heart.

I'm still working out the final thread colours as I begin stitching on it. Since this photo was taken, I have changed a few of the threads over. The main stumbling block is the yellow they've used for the stars. I'm not 100% happy with the shade so I'm trying to come up with a substitute for it.

For the dark pink I'm using Crescent Colours Prickly Pear (which doesn't really sound like pink), instead of GA Pink Azalea. The green is what's called for being GA Avocado.

Angel In Your Heart - started 26 January 2010

I've chosen 35ct WDW fabric in the colour Linen for this piece. It's quite a lovely muted, off white shade. With more emphasis on the 'off' than the white. It's a hard colour to describe. Being 35ct, it's wonderfully soft too.

I also got a couple of other linen cuts. They were 32ct Cafe Mocha for CCN The Bakery, and 28ct Pearl Grey for CCN Forest Snowfall. The Cafe Mocha I thought would be a little lighter than what it is. It's a darker, natural type of linen. The Pearl Grey is more grey than I would have thought too. I was expecting slightly more blue to it but I guess it looks similar to what the chart shows.

The other things I got were CCN Princess Parade and LHN Fa La La charts, along with some various threads for different projects.

Oh, and the Jill Rensel mat for one of my SB finishes. I'll show you that another time because I've done a whole range of photos for it which will be better displayed on its own.

The needlework markets are always exciting to see what comes out. The upcoming one later in February this year will have some interesting things, I'm sure. I'm itching to see what new designs are going to be released!

First Finish for 2010 ~ Summer Iris

My first finish for 2010 has come slowly but here it finally is.

I've enjoyed stitching Summer Iris. The thread colours went well with the fabric and with the personalising of the year and my initial, I'm pleased with the end result. There's no graph if you want to change these two features from what's on the original design so I've had to create my own 'J' and work out which way I wanted to do the '1' in 2010. It took me about five attempts for each before I was happy with them.

One day I'll complete this little piece and turn it into a pincushion or the like.

A Little More of a Glimpse

Here's more of a glimpse into what I got from The Silver Needle this week. The latest designer to join my list of favourites is With Thy Needle & Thread. I adored stitching Miss Snow Fairy and there's a number of their charts that have captured my eye. I was able to get some of them through The Silver Needle.

Along with these I ordered the Witch scissors to go with the SB Scaredy Sheep Scissor Fob (which I have bought previously), and a purse size Crystal Nail File by Dovo. I have the larger version of the nail file already and I love it. It's supposed to never dull down and is gentle on your nails.

Silver Needle Stash ~ Sneak Peek!

OK, here's something to tantalise your taste buds and will leave you drooling. I'm going to show you a sneak peek of my Silver Needle New Year's Eve Sale order.

There's hidden treasures underneath what you can see, but you'll have to wait a bit longer to get a glimpse of everything I ordered. It arrived in the mail today and it's something I look forward to receiving every year. I've been placing an order with them on New Year's Eve for the past four or five years. I usually get things that can be hard to order through other needlework shops since The Silver Needle site is so comprehensive. Plus they allow the discount on everything in the shop so I can always be guaranteed of getting some Shepherd's Bush kits/charts. I was also able to get a Jill Rensel SB mat for a piece I have stitched a number of years back. I'm so pleased with it and I'll show you some pictures when I get the chance.

I also wanted to thank you for your compliments on my photos and stitching. Some of you are under the impression I have finished Summer Iris. Sorry, but I still have a little to go on it. Though this will mean I'll have more photos to show when I do finish it!

As for my photo presentation, there's always room for improvement. I'm just wanting to try a few different ways to present them to make it more interesting. It enables me to bring out my creative side too.

Just to reply to your comments about my last post: Susan, my photo collages are done through Picasa software. There's a link in my sidebar if you're interested in downloading it. Let me know if you need any help with it. Melissa, I'm still deciding what my next project will be. It may be a Ewe Eye & Friends chart (you'll know which one) but I just have to make a final decision on the threads.

Weekend Stitching

I made good progress with Summer Iris yesterday. I'm loving the colours of this one and it's such a sweet, simple design. A real pleasure to stitch.

I'm trying to get a little more creative with my photo presentation. Thanks to Tammy giving me some help on where to put new downloaded fonts on to my computer so I can have access to them, I've been able to get more interesting fonts to use. It's a bit exciting when you discover new ways to do things. I'm not what you'd call a whiz when it comes to computers, though I get by. I'm learning a few other things that I had no idea you could do also. :)

Now I know you'll all be wondering how I'm going to 'finish' this one once I finish it. Not being overly into the side of finishing things off into something right now, I will probably put this aside until the time comes that I am creative and confident enough to turn it into a lovely needlework item. We'll see anyway. I've said it before, but the stitching is what I get the most pleasure from.

Needlework Accessories

This is the latest thing I'm hooked on - needlework accessories! Apart from scissors, I'm now interested in all types of items to compliment my sewing. I received a parcel during the week from Down Sunshine Lane with some lovely goodies in it.

Scissors attached to fobs, previously purchased.

The mini Lift 'N Snip silver scissors are a smaller version of my favourite scissors. This type I use all the time for my needlework as I love how the little hook at the end lifts up your threads away from your stitching for ease of cutting.

The needlework magnets are so cute and the magnets are quite strong on them. A great idea to keep your needle handy. The Made With Love charms I've seen on other blogs and have been wanting to get some. These will be great when I get more in to the finishing side of my stitching.

Fobs are a major attraction to me at the moment. I have lots of kits to make my own out of linen and threads but the jewelled variety appeals to me also.

The Patriotic Fob is my favourite.

I'm now moving along with Summer Iris. I got some stitching done today and can see the finishing line not being far away.

Stitching with Glasses

I got a new glasses case during the week. It arrived in the mail from The Silver Needle and was part of my order in their New Year's Eve sale. It's a Vera Bradley one and I just love it! The fabric name is Java Blue.

Yes, I wear glasses. Mainly for computer work, reading, and stitching.

I have also done a little more of Summer Iris. You would think I'd have it finished by now but I haven't been stitching. It's been very hot here lately and I haven't had much time for my needlework. I worked on it last night but I would have got further had it not been for a little frog appearing again! Drats!!!

A Funny Cat Story

I wasn't even going to post tonight but for this...

Here's a funny story which may make you giggle. I was taking down my Christmas tree and decorations last Sunday. I had bags lying about the floor to put things in, which included some large paper ones with handles. My cat Charlotte, decided to hop in one of these paper bags and rummage around in it. Next thing I hear is this noise and the paper bag flying off at a great speed! The bag went up over my lounge, down on to the floor, through the dining room, to the kitchen, down the hall, then all the way back to the lounge room, and started the journey over again! When I'd realised that a cat was inside this bag, with her caught in the handles, I started to laugh. Then I panicked because I thought she was going to damage or break something while she was flying around the house. So up I jumped to rescue her. She wouldn't stop though because she was scared out of her wits trying to get this bag offf her. Eventually I caught her and removed said bag! No major damage done, though poor pussy hid who knows where, for the next 10 or so minutes. She eventually came out and I gave her a big hug to calm her down. Where's the video camera when you need it? Funniest Home Videos would have had another entry!

I already had it kitted and I'm stitching on the recommended WDW threads and 30ct Baby's Breath linen.

The thread colours are yummy looking and go so well with the fabric. They are: WDW Dove, Cappuccino, Rum Raisin, Fawn, and GA Grecian Gold.

This sweet design is just right for Summer stitching (sorry for those of you in the depths of Winter).

A New Year and New Stash

I think just about everyone would be in 2010 now. I hope you've all celebrated in a good way and still have the mind to remember it all. It was quite hot for our New Year's Eve which left you feeling a bit lethargic. I had a few drinks of wine myself, and then got on the net to place a stash order with The Silver Needle's New Year's Eve Sale. Not a good combination. I ordered more than I should - again!

Meanwhile I received the other day an order I placed with Anita's Little Stitches before Christmas. It included scissors and fobs.

I got the pearl, pink, lavender, and red. The stones in them are a bit bigger than I thought they would be, but I still like them.

Favourites here are the Tudor Rose and Middle Age. Tudor Rose are so tiny, they're gorgeous! The Middle Age are lovely to handle.

I also got a couple of Dovo scissors which are made in Germany. One with a black satin Teflon finish, and the other a red and blue finish. I thought the red and blue would go with an Americana fob that I would have in my stash to make up. These scissors are both lighter in weight to what I thought they'd be.

Out of the fobs my favourite ones are the pearl and pink.

I haven't started any new stitching yet. I need to work out what I want to do next. I'll have to go have a look through my stash and see what jumps out at me.

2009 Finishes ~ in collage

A few of the ladies are putting up collages of their finishes for the past year. It's a great idea. I did this last year also, so I thought I'd join along and show you my finishes for 2009. Su from Contemplating My Needle And Thread is having a stitching 'year in review' party as well, so make sure to drop by and see her 2009 finishes along with others who have left a link.

2009 Finishes

Now when I say finishes, I don't always mean finished to the end. As in finished off as a pinkeep, needle holder, ornament, etc. They're just my stitchings that I have completed the main design and are waiting to be turned into something or framed. Though there was a couple of pieces I did manage to finish off. Mainly my Stacy Nash 2009 Group kit that I got in January - Heart Pinkeep and Strawberry Emery. Also a French design by Creations de Chrystelle called Chocolat. This one I finished as a mini cushion pinkeep and filled it with dried lavender. My confidence with finishing is not the best, so I usually get the most enjoyment from just stitching a design. One day I'm sure, when I get more creative, I'll have an abundance of needlework on hand that I can turn into pinkeeps and the like.

My favourite stitched pieces for 2009 would probably be the first and last ones I did. Recently is Miss Snow Fairy. This whimsical design was so fun to do. Had a little indecision at first on what thread to use for the white, but after that I was able to enjoy it. The other one I remember loving it at the time (and still do) is Life And Liberty. All the small motifs throughout it were a pleasure to stitch, and I love the person carrying the American flag. Anything with a bit of Americana always captures my eye.

There's others I enjoyed and some that I appreciate more after I've stitched them than during. One that was slightly more of a challenge was Chocolat because I did this, one over one. It seems to take you twice as long to stitch when doing over one I find. It really tests my patience too! Then I just worked out my own way of finishing it into a cushion. I just love the way it's turned out though. So soft and pretty.

It's so nice to go back over the memories that each piece brings with it. Some hold more meaning than others. I must say though that this year has produced the most finishes I have ever done before! When I first started to cross stitch, I would do about one piece a year. This past year I have completed 17 (or 18 if you separate the SN pinkeep and fob). The main thing I can put it down to is the support and interest I get from the people who look and comment on my blog. It's truly inspiring. So I just want to thank you all very much! I've enjoyed stopping by your blogs and seeing the wonderful creativeness out there also. These too are inspiring.

So here we come to the end of another year. May your New Year celebrations be safe and happy, and I wish you all a fantastic 2010! I look forward to seeing some wonderful finishes, from me and you, over the next 12 months.

I wanted to finish her over the Christmas break, so I stitched yesterday afternoon and into the night (12 midnight!) to complete her. I so loved doing this one. It would have to be one of my favourites that I've stitched for the year.

I changed the white thread to a paler version because I didn't want the snow to be the main feature, and I wanted a softer look to the design. If you lived in an area where you get snow, then you may want to go with the original thread of 3865. This will bring up the white a lot more as it's a lot brighter in tone.

I adore the whimsical look to this piece, and the colours are a great combination. It's a Christmas design without being too obvious or over the top. I love it!

I haven't decided how to finish this one off. I'll probably have it framed eventually. I think it's one I'd like to hang on the wall during the year and bring it out to a more prominent spot for Christmas.

This is probably going to be my last finish for the year. This year I mainly tried to stick to stitching by the seasons and celebrations. Next year I may do it differently. I'll have to wait and see how the mood takes me.

Thanks so much for all your Christmas wishes. I had a lovely Christmas Day. I was so tired when I got home though, that I had to have a nap on the lounge! I think all the build up to the day catches up with you and you suddenly hit a wall. I'm still feeling not very energetic, but I have to go back to work tomorrow for only a couple of days this week. Then I have another four days off! Gotta love this time of year.

I hope you're all getting over the Christmas celebrations and are gearing up for a new year of wonderful stitching. I know, I know, just have to get over the New Year celebrations first!

I feel it's more like Christmas with carols in the background along with presents being wrapped. I'm sure you all have your own type of tradition this time of year.

It's not a real one unfortunately, but I've compensated for that with ornaments. I've been adding more to it since I put it up, with some decorations bought only recently and some over the past ten or more years.

Guess what showed up today? My package from the US which had Mum's and Dad's Christmas present in! I'm sure they'll get a thrill when they see it because it's the type of bird feeder they've had before and are unable to get it here anymore. Now all I have to do is wrap it!

Christmas Joy

This is what I'm getting from this design. Total enjoyment from a cute, whimsical, Christmas pattern. I am so pleased that I decided to do this one and the colours of it are coming up a treat!

I've now completed Miss Snow and all I have to do is place her wings on so she becomes a fairy. I really didn't get bogged down with the solid colours on her dress, and since she's not what I would call big, I was able to complete most of her yesterday and into the night. A little stitching was done on Friday night to start her off.

Miss Snow Fairy - 19 December 2009

The Father Christmas decoration I got from a clothing shop of all places just recently. I thought he looked a bit whimsical and was ideal for this set of photos.

Christmas presents are bought, cards written (sorry, none are going overseas this year - just haven't got around to it), and just getting down to the last minute things now. Mum's and Dad's present is coming from the US this year. I still haven't received it but I know it's cleared through customs in Australia last Thursday. We've had a postal strike here last week for two or three days. This has caused a backlog of mail that will be delayed being delivered. Just as long as they sort Mum's and Dad's package (a bird feeder with accessories that you can't get here) and get it delivered to me by Christmas Eve at the latest! Otherwise it's going to be an IOU a present on Christmas Day. :)

I know most of you are freezing your little ball balls off right now, but we had a really hot day the other day here. It's a bit more temperate now and I don't think Christmas Day will be too hot either. Where I live you can have your heating on one day then the next you may need the cooling on! It can be so hard to plan things ahead, especially if you're doing activities outside. Still, you certainly get a variety of weather - four seasons in one day, sometimes.

I hope you're all getting your Christmas festivities sorted out and are not in too much of a flurry. Some of the decorated trees I've been seeing on other blogs are just fantastic. I love to see all the different varieties and types of decorations used. Mine has been up for a while now and I've been adding more and more decorations to it since. I must get a picture of it and show you before Christmas. It's just a fake tree as the real ones are too much for me to organise. Still does the job though, just without the smell of a real one. My youngest cat, Charlotte, has even been behaving herself with the decorations. She hasn't broken any yet!

I finished the hill on Miss Snow Fairy yesterday. I thought it was going to be a bit of a mountain, but it turned out to be a mole hill instead since it didn't take as long as I thought it would to complete.

My creativity's been overflowing and I took some pictures tonight after I got home from work, in the warm glow of the sun. A Christmas decoration adds to the look.

Miss Snow Fairy - 13 December 2009

While I was stitching yesterday, I had some relaxing Christmas music playing in the background. It was Kenny G's - Miracles: The Holiday Album. It's a CD I've had for quite a while and love to listen to it this time of year. So I had a relaxing stitching session yesterday.

This is why I like cross stitching. It makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Takes you back to a time where things were done at a slower pace. Handmade with love.

A Bit of Colour

It's amazing how some colour can add such interest to a piece. The white was looking a bit bland on its own, so I'm glad I decided to work on another area of the design. I just love this holly sticking out of the urn. The colours are so gorgeous too.

Miss Snow Fairy - 11 December 2009

You know, I contemplated changing the red colour for a moment. Then decided to stick with the original one. I thought it may have been too orange but I'm happy with it now I've seen it on the fabric. This design is really testing my decision making. I needn't make it so hard for myself. I'm now content with the white I've chosen for it.

Christmas is fast approaching now. It's funny how there's this big long lead up to the Day, then it's all over in a flash. So much preparation goes into it: trying to get families together, decorating the house, present buying, arranging what food to have and who will bring what, even down to what to wear to the occasion! It's busier in the shops, everything is selling out, and if you don't grab that item you were thinking of getting for who knows who, then you just know you'll miss out next time you go looking for it. Only yesterday was I thinking that 'wouldn't it be nice if you could jet off to another country for a holiday this time of year, and avoid getting caught up in all the hype, while seeing how others celebrate Christmas'. Then I was quickly jolted back to reality and got back to work! Ah, Merry Christmas. :)

Not a lot to show

I've completed the border and have been working on the snow hill of Miss Snow Fairy. No matter how quick you think hills will be, they always end up taking forever to do! Not that I've put a lot of time into this piece so far. A couple of hours here and there. Somehow though, I think it will take longer to do than I had first imagined. All good things come to those who wait, they say. I may start on some colours next to bring a bit of interest to it. Different colours always make things come to life.

Got My Act Together

You'll be happy that I've finally made a decision on Miss Snow Fairy. I've decided to go with my original idea and have stuck with the DMC 712 for the white. I'm still going to do it 1 over 2, since I tried stitching a bit with 2 threads and didn't like the heaviness of it. I am wanting a soft, delicate look for this chart and the one thread will achieve it I feel. Thanks to all who gave me their thoughts. It was lovely to get some input on it.

Miss Snow Fairy - 5 December 2009

I have done most of the border, just the top part to go. I am so looking forward to see how this one will stitch up in the end. I'm sure I'll be really happy with it. The design is so cute.

While I was stitching last night I watched Titanic on TV. I hadn't seen it for a while and it was lovely to watch it again. When it got to the end, of course, I was in tears. The cats were wondering what was wrong with me. :)

Well, back to work again tomorrow. My how the weekends go so fast!

So Indecisive

I'm having trouble trying to work out which way to go with Snow Fairy. After consideration on the white thread, I'd decided to go with DMC 712 (instead of 3865). I pondered over people's suggestion of Weeks Whitewash, but thought it was still too bright for the look I wanted. So last night I got everything out to make a start.

I'm working on 35ct Weeks Parchment Linen which is paler than the Dirty Linen that the chart calls for, and stitching 1 over 2. As I began stitching with the 712 thread, I began thinking that maybe it was too light! The thread that is. Then I thought maybe it's not the thread, and perhaps I need to change the fabric! What a state I was getting myself into. I'm still not 100% sure which way I'll go (although I do have an idea), but this was as far as I got with it. Really shows the amount of thinking I was doing, instead of stitching. :)

Miss Snow Fairy - started (maybe) 4 December 2009

The chart is in colour which is fantastic. It really makes it easy to know which colour thread to look for. I also noticed, that on the chart itself they've called it Miss Snow Flurry. Don't know whether this is a printing error or whether it's deliberate. I think the Flurry suits it better really. So stick with me to see which direction I take this project in. You'll never know which way it will end up! (I bet Tina's not having this much trouble with hers.)

I've mentioned previously that I was waiting for some new stash to arrive. It showed up on Thursday. All Shepherd's Bush kits that I bought online from The Rocking Horse. Barb had a sale on with 20% off, so I took advantage of this. She always puts a sale on before Christmas, so it's a good opportunity to buy gifts for others or even for yourself. These are all for myself this time. (If you want to know when she has her sales on, you need to join their email list.)

I wanted to do this one over the Thanksgiving period. We don't celebrate this holiday in Australia but I feel like we do in a way through stitching. Lots of American holidays are celebrated through their cross stitch patterns. The SB Thanks A Lot kit could be thanks for any occasion though.

Well I mustn't stay on this computer for too long if I want to try to work out what to do with Miss Snow Fairy. Wish me luck!

Plan B

Well, I'm still waiting for my latest stash order which has the next project I was going to do in it. I think I'll have to leave that one to another time now. So I'm having to resort to 'plan b'. I loved this chart when I got it so I may as well make a start on it. It's called Miss Snow Fairy by With Thy Needle & Thread.

By coincidence, Tina from Shepherd's Bush mentioned on their blog that she's going to stitch this one as well. So in my own mind I'm doing a SAL with her. How cool is that? I don't even care that she doesn't know about it. As long as I know, that's the main thing. :)

I'm just deciding whether to substitute the white thread with a more toned down version. I know it's supposed to be snow but it's quite bright. Here we go again - decisions, decisions!

Baby Bug Ball ~ Finished

I have finally finished my Baby Bug Ball! There wasn't a lot to go when I left it last and I was able to finish it all off yesterday afternoon. What a happy looking trio of bugs they are.

This one I stitched along with Loraine from Sew Be It. She was able to finish hers last week and sounds as though she had as much fun as I had with it. She'd started this design a while back and didn't continue with it. When she saw I had decided to stitch it, she asked if she could stitch along so she could be inspired to pick it up again. Thank you for joining me on this journey, Loraine. It was so fun and we'll have to pick something else one day to do together. I know there's a few things we both have the patterns for so it shouldn't be too difficult to decide. Anyway, here's my finished Bug Ball.

This next picture's for Loraine to show her my crow button is all intact. You see, she had a problem with hers. It broke in half! Fortunately for her though, she doesn't live very far from Shepherd's Bush actual shop, and was able to duck in one day and pick up another. How delightful that sounds to someone who lives so far from them. :)

My favourite bug was the lady bug on the right, which was Loraine's favourite too. She is so pretty looking, with the lace at the bottom of her dress and the flower sticking out of her hat.

The other bugs are gorgeous too of course.

There's so many eye catching things in this design. From the sun, the flowers, the bees, the buttons, and the little flower sticking out of the girl's hat.

I hope you've had fun keeping up to date with my progress on this one. It took me longer than I thought it would but I'm so delighted with the outcome. Such a cute one.

Now to the next project!

Just the fun bits to go

Sorry I haven't posted until now. Things have been fairly busy lately and I haven't had the proper time. Bet you've all been wondering where I've got to with BBB? Well, I still have some more to do but I'm down to the decorating, shall I say, with it. The bugs need antennae, a few bees flying around, and some beading and buttons are still to be added.

I've had a hard time trying to get good colouring when taking photos of this one, so for this post I have resorted back to my scanner for the picture. I was able to work on it last Friday and Saturday nights and have managed to get all the bugs completed (apart from a few little extra bits).

Baby Bug Ball - 21 November 2009

My stitching friend who worked with me on this, Loraine, has managed to do so well with hers and has finished it. It was such a pleasure to share this project with you Loraine, and maybe we can do another some day. Please drop by her blog to see her finished piece of Bug Ball, along with another Shepherd's Bush winter sampler which is so cute. Both are beautifully stitched pieces. Well done, Loraine! (You know I secretly envy her because she lives so close to my favourite designers, Shepherd's Bush, and can drop by their enchanting shop at a whim. What a dream that must be, I can only imagine.)

Well, enough dreaming for now. I have a stash order that should arrive any day, which will have my next project in it. Sometimes you know exactly what to do next and other times you don't get the inspiration so easily.

Looks like I'll be waiting til the weekend to finish BBB so please watch out for my finished photos. Don't you love that sense of accomplishment that comes from another finish?

This is going to be my favourite Bug, I can tell. I'm onto the last one and I'm loving her outfit already. Some beads will go along the bottom of her dress which will create a little more interest and make it look lacy.
