Autumn Blessings

Chrissie has asked me whether I had any WIPS on the go in her last comment. Apart from BBD's Quaker Garden (which I should get back to sometime), I don't have any others. I do have a UFO that I started back in March 2007 though. It's a Shepherd's Bush kit called Autumn Blessings. It's a really lovely design and I'd like to finish it someday. The reason why I put it down was the colour of the wording in it. The picture shows it as a purple and the kit calls for Dried Pink Roses. Not purple at all. So it wasn't coming out the way I had visioned.

So my options are to continue with the Dried Pink Roses as pictured in the photos, or to pull the wording out and replace it with another colour. I went through what threads I have and came up with a limited edition GAS called Pale Aubergine. I don't know what you think. I'd appreciate your comments about my choices if you have an opinion. It may help with my decision. Then I might be able to get back into it.

Colours can change your whole outlook on a design. They're such an important part. Remember, if you have an idea on what I should do, or if you've stitched this one yourself, please let me know.

If you're not happy with the DPR (and it doesn't sound like you are), then rip it out and use the purple. (Perhaps do a little bit of wording in the purple before you rip out the pink and compare them, so that you can decide which you prefer).

I often change colours in a design to be closer to what I can see in the picture, as usually part of why I like a design is the colours and thread dyelots can change so much. If the thread colour is putting you off, then I would definitely change it, as I suspect you will be happier in the long run.

Hmmm I see what you mean about the colours in the chart pic. But then again, the heart on the top sheep looks purple too. So maybe it's a printing thing. Either that, or SB have completely changed the colour after the pic was taken. What a pity you didn't post before I went to SB...they have all the models there in the shop and I could've checked for you.

I would skip the words for the moment and stitch a bit more to see if there is more pink in the design. Another nice silkie purple is Medieval Mulberry (silk n colors) which would look nice too.

Hi Jane. From your picture I think the Dried Pink Roses looks great and blends well with the other colours and gives it a nice lift. Of course, in the end it has to be what you like. I see it is over one as well which always makes it tricky to unpick but I agree with Alison, perhaps do a bit more of the design and then see what you think. It will look great no matter what and it doesn't always have to be exactly as charted.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you decide. :)

PS I have just looked at the link to the finished work and I think the DPR would look much better. It almost seems a bit 'flat' IMHO with all that purple.

I personnally prefer the pale aubergine.
But since the words are stitched over 1 thread, won't it be too difficult to undo what you have already stitched ?

I love the dried pink roses and if it were me, I'd stay with that, because NO WAY would I rip out those one over one stitches, lol. The purple looks good too, but the pink is gorgeous. I love that design as you know!

The colour in the actual SB picture is definitely more purple than the pink it is telling you to use, and even the colour of the left hand flower is darker than yours. I wonder if whoever stitched the model used the wrong thread. Personally I would unpick the pink wording and use the same colour as the left hand flower, whatever that is, but be very careful if you do unpick, as I have had a fabric thread break on me, when unpicking, not what you want at this stage.

I like the pink version, it highlights the text, but it's only my opinion, just one thing, if you pull the wording out, you must take care because the overdyed thread can leave a trace on the fabric!

I also prefer the pale aubergine. I think the pink is too light.
We're not really helping you, are we:(

Ripping out over one is no fun and I think the dried pink roses looks good! But it's your choice! I would love to stitch this one someday!!
